Policy Recommendations

The policy recommendations in this report provide a roadmap for improving the lives of Black workers in the South and strengthening the labor movement in the region. While federal action remains important, advocates and policy experts should prioritize state and local implementation as a strategic response to the increasingly anti-worker, anti-immigrant, and racist political climate we’re facing.
Researchers and writers can use these recommendations to develop concrete campaigns, legislation, and organizing strategies tailored to their communities. Local and state-level wins not only deliver immediate benefits to workers but also build momentum and models that can be replicated across the South and beyond.
